A Bulle Early Electric Clock Under a Glass dome c.1920
£1200
An early electromechanical clock by Bulle. It is numbered 3605, dating from the first year of production. The clock is in very good original condition and has been sympathetically restored. The painted dial is without fault, and the mechanism can be seen though the inner opening. The clock is powered by a modern C battery housed in the rear column, which can easily be changed when required.
How it works: When the pendulum is in motion it makes and breaks an electrical contact. When contact is made it momentarily allows current to flow through the coil at the bottom of the pendulum. The magnetic field produced attracts the field in the curved bar magnet, thus impulsing the pendulum.
This clock was invented by Marcel Moulin (1881-1914) and Maurice Favre-Bulle (1870-1954) immediately before the start of the first World War. Unfortunately, Moulin was killed in action. Favre-Bulle survived the war, and immediately afterwards patented the original idea with Moulin’s widow. The clock was so successful that by the time production ended in 1952, it is estimated that 300,000 clocks were made with over 100 different models.
The clock has been overhauled and comes with a two-year guarantee.
